3-20-08 William Brigden attended the Park and Recreation Dept. meeting in the BS Barns Room of the City Hall at 5:30pm. He shared what had been discussed at the Park and Recreastion Office as well as mentioning the 14th annual Neighborhood Cookout and Funday the last Saturday in September 2008 at the Albright UMChurch.
3-18-08 William Brigden met with the Secretary and worker at the Park and Recreation of Ponca City at their office on West . They expressed interest in (1) the Water Booth suggesting that it not be operated when the concessions stand at the BMX track and /or Ball field were open as income benefits the park operations. In the summer there will be a water fountain turned on at the restroom. There should be someone on duty at all times to insure purity of water and control of litter. (2) Neighborhood and Park cleanup are needed, and improved waste cans that won't blow over are under discussion. (3)Albright's offer of a shuffleboard set was discussed and it was felt that it might get the most use and least abuse at the unity gym where it could be stored in the Sr. Citzen's closet. It was suggested that William Brigden appear at the Park and Recreation Dept. Meeting on Thursday, March 20th, at 5:30pm in the BSBarns Room. William Brigden would share what had been discessed, but not action could be taken as it was not on the adjenda, but only open to "public comment" time at the first of the meeting.
2-10-08 Being discussed is a ministry to people who come to Dan Moran Park from South Street to Otto on Ash Street. Hundreds of children, youth and adults come each day to play on the new courses. Initial ideas would be to (1) visit with the Park Department and find out if a "Free Water" service would be acceptable. In places like fairs United Methodists have done this, providing free glasses or bottles of Ice water along with pamphlets about their faith and services. Churches could pick days to be at the park and provide the service with a church or website used to coordinate them. (2) Other services might be "First Aid" for bumps and bruises though most Church insurance only covers the Church for activities on its own grounds. The YMCA found itself sued when it ran a skate board area and discontinued it. Ministering at Ball Games and other activities might be tried at this and other parks.
