2-10-08  HELPS TO SCHOOL CHILDREN:

Albright UMC collects school supplies and other items  for children at the Lincoln Grade School.

Asbury UMC  is providing  in School adult volunteers  to assist children and teachers at the Liberty Grade School.  .  On Wednesdays from  6-7:30PM neighborhood children from grade l-12  are invited for supper,  worship and  small group experiences for Grade 1-3, 4-5, Jr. High Boys, Jr. Hi Girls and Sr. High  students.  A member of lst UMC and others are  helping finace the dinners and Asbury Sunday School Classes are taking turns fixing the food..  A few kids play "youth music"(drums, guitar etc very loud).   Background: The pastor and others volunteer at the school.  They had an invitation to the Wednesday  afternoon program approved by the PC School District office and posted in the school.  Students who came to know  the volunteers had a relationship with them and came to their after school dinner and activities.  The school principal warned them of the negative behavior of some of the kids.  They appointed a "Principal"  to whom kids could be sent if needed.  There were also monitors in the church halls who could send kids to the Principal.  The principal  asks  the child to leave and if needed offers a ride home.  The disruptive child  may come back the next week, but not stay that day.  The Liberty School principal has reported fewer problems now with some of his problem children.  The Church has not been able to involve parents  in the program.   There is danger of Church or workers being accused  or sued.  Liability insurance usually covers activities on the Church property.  For more information contact Pastor Lyle Shipley at Asbury UMC.

January 20 2009  THURSDAY 1-4 PM    United  Methodist Women in the Ponca City area are invited to the first Ponca City Area UMC Women's Fellowship Time of the year  2009 at  the Albright United Methodist Church at 128 South Palm.   Information=Esther Bridgen  765 9611.
